National Park Service Plaques

I was commissioned to do a series of 20 plaques for people who would be retiring from the National Park Service.

I chose woods to resemble the hues and values of the original NPS logo.  They are wenge (dark), bloodwood (reddish), walnut, and maple.

The main technical challenge was to create the small inlays-within-inlays, like the walnut land poking through the snowcapped maple areas in the mountains.  I was particularly pleased with the look of the chamfered arrowhead.
